Breath

Breath.
The 4.5 year old is whining and crying because he once again has a fever and feels like crap.
Breath.
The 6.5 year old is running around like a feral cat because it is time to get ready for bed.  Getting ready for bed is obviously the worst possible thing in the world and must be avoided at all costs.
Breath.
The 17 month old is acting like a total goof.  She keeps trying to get the 4.5 year old to play with her, but he feels like crap and keeps screeching in response.
Breath.
I love my children.  I am grateful that they are part of my life.  These moments though, the ones where it feels like I’m in the middle of a riot, overwhelm me.
I have to take a step back and breath.
Collect myself.
Look at the picture from a different angle.
Start the moment over.

Or,  maybe get rescued by my husband when he walks through the door from work.  That works too.

Later tonight,  when they are all  sleeping,  I will gaze at them as they have adventures in their dreams.  Sometimes I get glimpses of those dreams when the boundary between dreamland and reality is blurred. Someone will sit up and mumble about swords,  or bring their hand to their mouth as they snack on something delicious.  I giggle thinking about it.

Tomorrow is a new day.  New discoveries.  New trials.  New inventions.  New frustrations.  The key is learning to work through it all together.  Learning to communicate effectively with one another. Someday that will happen,  maybe.

Tuesday

Aside from being awake half the night with a coughing Peanut, the day was pretty good. I brought K to work for 7:30, when I got back home the boys were still sleeping. I sat down with some coffee and brought up Revolution on Hulu. I think I like the show. I am not really attached to any shows yet this season. I got about half way through before I was joined by the boys.

It was chilly in the house, so  decided to make some cookies. You know, to warm up the house 🙂 I made some Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies from My Baking Addiction. They are pretty delicious. Soft and cake-like. I made 36, there are now 14 left. . . . If you want the recipe, click here .

Yum!

After picking K up from work, I laid down with Peanut to get him down for a nap and ended up napping myself. I needed it. I don’t get much sleep when the boys are sick.

Munchkin has been pretty low key due to this cold. Hubby set him up with some video games and K found him a leapster on Ebay. He has been pretty happy with those. He is on the mend now. I think yesterday was his worst day.

Munchkin, yesterday. Napping on the couch.

The night ended well. I got to give Milkies to a goat magnet, a deer magnet, and then finally a sheep magnet as well as Peanut. So silly.

This evening has ended with the smell of skunk filling the air. I was hoping it wasn’t our dogs. No such luck. Lily didn’t really get it, Sawyer got it pretty good. I have no energy to bathe him right now though. The house is a little stinky. As soon as I get back from bringing K to work in the morning, I will hose him down.

Growing up is hard to do

The boys are getting older. They are growing up. It is fun to see all the changes happening, but also makes me sad at the same time. My babies aren’t quite babies anymore.

Peanut

Peanut is trying out new words. He says “Thank you” quite frequently and just this morning tried out “You’re welcome”.  He says “uh, oh” and “here you go”. He says “what” and the infamous “No”.

He had me help him say “belly button” this morning too. So cute. He says “mama” and “dada” of course.

He doesn’t say dog or cat, but he says “chicken” . He is obsessed with them.

He runs. Is working on jumping. Spins in circles. Climbs on everything. The climbing is rough. Nothing is sacred. 😉

And of course he wants to do everything his big brother does.

He is so silly. And perpetually dirty these days.

Munchkin

Being 3.5 is a very hard age. No longer a toddler, but not quite a preschooler. Kind of like being a pre-teen.

He has so many words, but doesn’t always know how to use them.

He knows all his shapes and colors. He can sing his ABC’s almost perfectly. He is recognizing his numbers.

He wants to do everything himself. Which is great, but not always feasible.

And of course he wants to do everything his little brother does.

Wait.

What?

Yes. Oh the digressions. We have to remind him that he is a big boy and does in fact know how to do certain things. Like getting dressed and using the potty. Or telling us he needs something. He will resort to pointing and saying “uh uh uh”. We remind him to use his words because he does have them.

Yes, he is officially using the potty full time! He has a few accidents here and there, but I am so very proud of him. 🙂

He wants to be just like us grown ups too. He wants to sit in the front seat of the car. He wants to mow the lawn, He wants to wash the dishes and vacuum. We let him help out where we can.

See what I mean though. He is stuck in that in-between area.

Making faces

Hooray for Rain!

We finally got some rain this evening. Yay!

The plants and trees are thirstily drinking it up. Not quite fast enough though. Our backyard still managed to flood some.

I wasn’t prepared and so the goats got stuck on the other side of the yard and hid out in the dog house during the deluge. By the time the rain subsided some, it was dinner time for the goats. They braved the rain and gigantic puddles to run across the yard to the shed. They are much happier now.

The chickens are funny. The Reds have no problem with getting wet. Aside from hiding under the table during the worst part of the storm, they have been strolling around the yard. They are soaked through and their feathers are quite mottled looking, but I think they really enjoy the rain. Buffy and Rocky quickly took shelter in the goat shed. They are keeping the goats company now.

The boys played in an earlier rain shower. At first they weren’t quite sure if they liked it. They eventually decided they liked it and ran around and played. It wasn’t enough rain to create puddles, but Munchkin still had to put his new, red rain boots on. He loves his rain boots and wears them quite a bit, even when it isn’t necessary. Then both boys napped through the major part of the storm. . .I think it may be a late tonight.

I wish I had some pictures to share, but you know, it has been/is still raining. The camera would get wet. It would stop working. I would be sad if that happened. I could take an umbrella out, but it is also lightning, so I don’t really imagine that ending well either. Instead I will leave you with a pic of the Girlies (the goats) playing on the porch the other day.

Have a great evening!

It’s Thursday

So glad it’s Thursday! Grey’s Anatomy is on tonight. Yay! Love that show.

Last night was a much better night for the boys. Munchkin slept until 9 this morning. Peanut was up a little before 8. Insomnia dug it’s claws into me though. I will definitely be napping with Peanut today.
